Product detailed description
Do you know what Splendissima basilica means? Well, the most magnificent church, so what else should a book of photographs by Libor Teplý be about other than our Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist?
The phrase Splendissima basilica was used by the historian Bohuslav Balbín in 1681 to describe the Sedlec Cathedral, even though it was in ruins at the time!
A few years later, Abbot Snopek had the cathedral repaired according to a design by architect Santini, and the result was a work so breathtaking that the cathedral was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995.
In this book you will be able to see what the Sedlec Cathedral looked like just after the demanding renovation in 2009. In addition to photographs by Libor Teplý, the book is accompanied by texts by Štěpán Vácha, an art historian whose domain is sacral art of the 17th and 18th centuries.
